First Phase of Polio Vaccinations Completed in Gaza
The first phase of the campaign to immunize children against polio in war-torn Gaza -- and to head off a feared outbreak of the crippling disease -- was completed on September 12. A total of 552,451 children were vaccinated. Communities were enthusiastic about the vaccination efforts, with a large number of families bringing children to 117 fixed vaccination sites. There are plans for a second round of immunizations in about four weeks.
