Board to Present $50 Dues Increase for Members’ Approval
At this week’s meeting (Nov. 19), Club President John Brown will explain in greater detail the Board of Directors’ proposal for a $50 annual dues increase for each of the next two years. The proposal will be voted on by members at the Annual Meeting in December. The Board will also propose that one meeting a month be held as a social meeting after work hours (similar to Rotary After Work) at a site other than the Oxbow. Both proposals are designed to help the club operate on a balanced budget. The alternative would be a $200/year increase next year.

- Last Rotary year, our per member expenses were $673/member, $173 more per member than members paid in dues?
- Meal expenses are our largest single expense item? Last year, our per member meal cost was $448.11, which was 89.6% of each member’s $500 dues.
Bylaws Proposal to be Voted on in Annual Meeting
In conjunction with the proposed $50-a-year dues increase, members will be asked to approve a Bylaws amendment at the December meeting. It will require the Board to review our dues and make recommendations to membership at least every third year. It reads:

Section 2 - Membership dues and any service assessment shall be determined by the Board and approved by club membership. The Board shall review the dues and any service assessment at least every three years prior to the Annual Meeting and shall report its conclusions and recommendations at such Annual Meeting for approval by club membership. Each active member shall be assessed for such amounts, subject to the exceptions provided in this Article VII. Membership dues may be paid annually or quarterly at the option of the individual member; the service assessment, if any, may be paid annually or biannually.

And globally, more than $20 billion has been invested by Rotary, the Gates Foundation, and governments since the goal of a polio-free world was set in 1988.
