July 4th Rotary BBQ is Huge Success!
The Lander Rotary Club's annual July 4th Rotary BBQ in City Park was a grand success this year! More than 1040 plates were served -- an increase of 15% over last year -- and the gross income was more than $15,000, not including the club's portion of concession sales (beer and ice cream). In addition, members and others contributed $7,500 in sponsorships that will be dedicated to the club’s service projects. Expenses are still preliminary, but it appears our net income should be in the range of $5,000, same as last year. Kudos to Past President Ron Fossen and President-elect George Case (2026-27) for a fabulous job in leading the BBQ Committee and the Club in making this event so successful!!
Foundation Giving Tops $9,000, PolioPlus $2,100 for 2024-25
Lander Rotarians contributed $9,226 to the Annual Fund of The Rotary Foundation in the 2024-25 Rotary Year, exceeding our goal of $8,000. The per capita giving amount was $162, our highest per capita amount in the last five years! Members also contributed $2,159 to PolioPlus, topping our goal of $1,500. Congratulations, Rotarians, for supporting The Rotary Foundation! And what, you might ask, are the giving goals for 2025-26? Well, they are:
Annual Fund - $9,000 PolioPlus - $2,500
Art Auction Nets $4,845 for More Solar Chargers for Ukraine
The District-wide Art Auction and Raffle to raise money for sending more cell phone chargers to the Ukrainian people netted $4,845. While that was short of the goal, it’s still enough to purchase at least 38 more solar panels, convert them to solar cell phone chargers, and ship them to schools, hospitals, Rotary clubs, and others in war-torn Ukraine, where the electrical grid has been devastated by Russian attacks. And the Service Committee has voted to pitch in $1,500 to purchase another 12 chargers. Thanks to Ken Schreuder for leading this great project!

Board Approves Supporting Nurses’ Training Program in Zambia
The Board has approved supporting a $30,000 Global Grant project to train nurses in Zambia to diagnose and treat strep throat, which if untreated can cause fatal or debilitating rheumatic heart disease. The project, similar to one completed last year in Rwanda, would be carried out in this Rotary year. Club funds will not be sought; rather, funding will come from District and Rotary Foundation sources. The project could lay the groundwork for a much larger $400,000 training project in 2026-27 or later.
