Share Your Ideas for Service Projects
The Club's Service Committee, co-chaired by Maria Kidner and Dottie Tonkowich, is actively looking for 2023-24 service projects that could be supported by grants from District 5440, and they'd love to hear your ideas and suggestions! We could possibly secure a District Grant of up to $5,000 for a new, qualifying project. Some of the guidelines:
- Club contributions are matched $2:$1 from the district’s allocation of District Designated Funds (returned Rotary Foundation Annual Fund contributions)
- If the club reaches $100/Rotarian in Annual Fund contributions for 2022-23, we could possibly receive up to a $5,000 grant
- The project needs to be humanitarian service and involve sweat equity/hands-on service by members (not simply a pass-through of money to a non-profit)
- We can’t use the same project we used in 2022-23 or the project will be limited to a grant of $1000
No sitting around: Bench project leader needed!
The Service Committee is looking for someone to lead the club’s spring community service project to sand, clean and stain the benches (8 of them) along Main Street. The City is supplying all materials, Lander Rotary is providing the people-power! Tentative work days are May 12 (sanding and cleaning) and May 13 (staining and sealing). Contact Dottie Tonkowich,

Good news: Club’s TRF Annual Fund giving exceeds $5,400!
We've just passed the mid-point of the 2022-23 Rotary year, and members' contributions to the Annual Fund of The Rotary Foundation stand at $5,405. Our club goal for the Annual Fund this year is $7,000. “We are doing VERY well,” John Brown, Foundation Chair, says. Giving to the Annual Fund supports Rotary's humanitarian projects around the world, plus 50% of our contributions will be returned to District 5440 in three years to support local service projects through District Grants. In addition, our members and others have contributed $3,067 to PolioPlus, more than double our goal of $1,500. Congratulations and thank you, Lander Rotarians, for supporting our Rotary Foundation!
Next Whiskey Tasting – Thursday, Jan. 19
The next meeting of the club’s (unofficial) Whiskey Tasting Group is coming up quickly – this Thursday, Jan. 19, at 6:00 p.m. at the home of Andy Gramlich and Jackie Nelson, 920 Mountain View Court. It’s bourbon this time! Contact Ken.Schreuder@gmail.com for details and to RSVP. Each attendee is asked to bring a side dish. $20 cash per taster. Carpooling and designated drivers are encouraged.
Rwanda Nursing Conference Set for February
Club member Maria Kidner will be traveling in Rwanda Feb. 11-24 to implement a two-day Special Cardiac Nurse conference our club has supported for 2022-23. Our partners, Team Heart and the University of Rwanda, are supporting the conference on Feb. 17-18. Evaluation data will be collected to determine program effectiveness and transferability to other parts of Rwanda or other countries. Maria has begun developing relationships with a Rotary Club in Kigali, the capital, so that future Rotary grant-funded programs may be considered. This pilot program is supported through private donations from Rotarians and non-Rotarians.
