We Made It – $7,175 in Annual Fund Giving!!
The Club has surpassed its goal of $7,000 in giving to the Annual Fund of The Rotary Foundation this year, Foundation Chair John Brown announced this week. With 15 days yet to go in the Rotary Year, members’ giving totals $7,175! (The Annual Fund supports Rotary projects around the world.) When giving to PolioPlus is included, Lander Rotarians have contributed more than $10,000 to the Foundation this year. Congrats!
Scholarship Awarded to Jamison Thatch
The Lander Rotary Club’s $1,500 college scholarship this year has been awarded to Jamison Thatch, a senior at Lander Valley High School. Jamison plans to major in political science with a minor in international relations at Brigham Young University. Describing herself as “a catalyst for change,” Jamison hopes to eventually serve as a United States Ambassador. Congratulations, Jamison!
July 4 Rotary BBQ – Volunteers Still Needed

There will be beer and hard seltzer, and the Low Water String Band will play again this year. Every Rotarian will receive 5 tickets to give away (or sell) – that’s part of your Service Fee. We Heard It on the Grapevine...at District Conference!
Ken Schreuder, Maria Kidner, Cassy Venters and Jerry Venters heard some great ideas for possible service projects at last week’s District Conference in Estes Park, CO. Among them:
- Converting used solar panels into cell phone chargers for the people without reliable electricity in war-torn Ukraine.
- Building houses for homeless families in Juarez, Mexico.
- Providing food, drink, etc., to Search and Rescue volunteers responding to emergencies.
- Providing equipment, such as generators and radios, to emergency response agencies.
Watch for more about these (and other) possible projects in the coming months! If you have ideas for other service projects, let one of these four participants know!
Canyon Scholars, Rwandan Nurses Projects Gain Support
Ken Schreuder and Maria Kidner pitched this club’s Canyon Scholars and Rwandan nurses training projects to District 5440 Rotarians in the “World Café” at the District Conference and were well received. Maria also presented a 45-minute breakout session on the anticipated Global Grant to train nurses in Rwanda, particularly in the diagnosis and treatment of strep throat, which can lead to rheumatic heart disease and early death. Ken received a promise for a $1,000 contribution to the Canyon Scholars scholarship program.
978 Hours of Volunteer Service!
This Rotary Year, Lander Rotarians, along with a dozen or so non-members, volunteered 978 hours to make the club’s numerous service projects successful. Great work, Rotarians!
