Lander, Riverton Rotarians Rock World Polio Day
High fives all around!  In celebration of World Polio Day on October 24, Lander and Riverton Rotarians raised more than $4,330 in contributions to PolioPlus to help eradicate polio. Fifty-three persons made donations.  The Riverton club raised $640 with its cornhole tournament and Pizza Hut coupons, and the Lander club raised $3,690 with the golf marathon, Pizza Hut coupons, and other weekly efforts.  When matched 2-for-1 by the Gates Foundation, our efforts will produce almost $13,000 for the worldwide fight against this crippling disease.

Time to Get Your Ring On
It’s almost time once again to ring the bells and raise some money to support the Salvation Army’s programs for Lander families.  This year, we have three opportunities:
Contact Linda Hudson, lhudson1950@msn.com, for more information.  Donations can be sent to: Lander Salvation Army, c/o First Stop Help Center, 863 South 8th, Lander 82520.  Remember, 90% of the funds raised stay in Lander!

Tackling Strep Throat in Rwanda
Lander Rotarian Maria Kidner, who has traveled to Rwanda numerous times, will be headed that way again soon to conduct a pilot training course to train graduate nurses to diagnose strep throat and educate Rwandan families to prevent and treat strep throat which, it not treated in the early stages, can lead to an early death.  More than 40,000 young adults and children have undiagnosed rheumatic heart disease (RHD) in Rwanda, a small country in eastern Africa.

Donations are being sought from individuals and Rotary clubs for the project.  Our club’s Service Committee has provided $1,500 in seed money toward the project, and additional contributions have been received.  A Rotary District Grant is not available for the project.  If you wish to contribute, make your check payable to the Lander Rotary Club and send it to P.O. Box 52, Lander 82520.  It is hoped this pilot project will lead to a more extensive Rotary-sponsored training program in the future.  Questions? Contact Maria at m2kidner2@gmail.com.

It's Whiskey Tasting Time on Nov. 17
The second get-together of the club’s newly launched Whiskey Tasting group will take place at 6:00 p.m. on Nov. 17 at the home of Ken Schreuder and Lorrie Pozarik, 40 Meandering Way.  There’s a rumor that single-malt scotch will be the drink of choice and we know there will be plenty of fun and laughter!  Please let Ken know https://landerwhiskeytasting.rsvpify.com on or before Wednesday November 16, if you plan to attend (or not) so Ken and Lorrie will have enough food and drinks for everyone. The cost is $20/taster. (This is a social gathering, not an official club activity.)
