Take Me Out to the Ballpark!!
Twenty or so Lander and Riverton Rotarians – plus Rotarian-to-be Stokes Fabel (2 ½) – joined Mayor Sherry Oler and others at the city ballpark in Hudson to paint the dugouts and stain the ticket booth last Saturday. A lot of red, blue and gold paint was brushed on the thirsty cinder blocks and dugout benches and several arms and legs. There’s no report on how many hotdogs and beers were consumed – what happens in Hudson stays in Hudson!! Thanks to Cale Case for leading this great effort!
Open Discussion Membership Meeting Next Week (May 22)
Next week’s club meeting will be devoted to an open discussion of items of interest and concern to all members, including the following items that have been put forward by the Board of Directors:
- Starting July 1, waivers or dues reductions for meal costs will no longer be available, except for serious medical conditions. Members with severe medical reasons or dietary restrictions can connect with the board about an exception.
- Weekly program speakers will be offered two tokens for free meals at future meetings. (Speakers often are good potential candidates for membership, especially if members contact them and invite them to return!)
- Previously approved by the Board: Starting July 1, guests’ meals will be free for their first visit and $10/meeting thereafter.
If you have other issues you’d like to discuss on May 22, please bring them and let’s all talk!! (Please note that this is not an official business meeting.)
Quin Lasnoski Receives Club’s 2024 Scholarship
Aquinas (Quin) Lasnoski, a senior at Lander Valley High School, has been selected to receive the club’s $1,500 college scholarship for 2024. The oldest of 10 children in his family, Quin hopes to attend either the United States Air Force Academy or the University of Notre Dame and to eventually become a pilot and officer in the U. S. Air Force. Among his many activities, Quin has been a Civil Air Patrol cadet leader, member of the LVHS track and cross-country teams, member of the National Honor Society, and volunteer coach of an U10 youth soccer team. Twelve students submitted applications.
Cassy and Jerry Venters Recognized for Foundation Giving
At a recent Rotary Foundation Recognition Dinner in Casper, Cassy and Jerry Venters of our club were recognized as among 42 “Triple Crown Donors” in District 5440. This is a new designation established by District 5440. Triple Crown Donors are Rotarians who are members of the Paul Harris Society and the TRF Bequest Society and are Major Donors (more than $10,000 in giving) to The Rotary Foundation. Congratulations, Cassy and Jerry!
Gavel Exchange – June 26 – Hold the Date!
Mark your calendars for June 26 for the annual Gavel Exchange, when President Mandy Fabel will hand over the presidential gavel to our 2024-25 President, Shelby Rohrbacher. As in past years, we will share this event with the Riverton Rotary Club -- in Riverton this year. Watch for details in the coming weeks. Let’s have a big turnout for this special Rotary Club event!!
Updates:
- Shelby Rohrbacher, RYLA Chair, reports that we will be sending 9 kids to Young RYLA (middle school ages) and 3 kids to RYLA (high school ages) in June and July in Estes Park.
- John Brown, Foundation Chair, reports that the club is at $5,081 in giving to The Rotary Foundation this Rotary year, almost $2,000 short of our $7,000 goal, with less than two months left in the 2023-24 year. We must reach at least $6,100 to make the $100 per capita level to maintain our eligibility for Global Grants. Please consider making your contributions soon to insure they are received by TRF before June 30!
