Special Recognitions Made at Gavel Exchange
Special recognitions were presented to three Lander Rotarians at last night’s annual Gavel Exchange with our Rotary friends from Riverton. Foundation Chair Jerry Venters presented Paul Harris Fellowship pins and certificates to:
- Mike Lilygren for his many years of service as the club’s treasurer and President, July 4 BBQ Chair, and cheerful “Mike-of-all-trades.”
- Michelle Motherway for her many years of providing delicious meals for the Gavel Exchange, the July 4 BBQ, and countless other club functions.
- Ken Schreuder for his initiative and leadership on our club project to convert solar panels to cell phone chargers for the embattled people of Ukraine, plus five years of service as Club Secretary.
These members have demonstrated Service Above Self in many, many ways and are truly deserving of these recognitions. (Unfortunately, our “retiring” President, Shelby Rohrbacher, missed the event with a nasty case of laryngitis.)

College Scholarship Presented to Ally Spiess, LVHS Senior
The Lander Rotary Club’s annual $1,500 college scholarship for 2025 has been presented to Ally Spiess, a graduating senior at Lander Valley High School who hopes to become a nurse caring for survivors of sexual assault. As a specially-trained Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner, Ally “aims to make a significant difference in the lives of (sexual assault) survivors in my community, offering them the dignity and respect they deserve while helping to bring justice and healing.” She plans to attend Casper College for her nursing degree and then return to Lander to complete her specialized training. She hopes to pursue her nursing career in Fremont County. Congratulations, Ally!
