It’s been a while since our last New Member Social, but that will change next Thursday, Feb. 20, at 5:30 p.m. at The Summit!  This will be a chance for new members (and old) to visit in an informal setting with Rotary board members and other “veteran” members – getting to know each other better and learning why we care about “Service Above Self.” And why we love to sing "I've Been Working on the Railroad."  Anything goes!  The first round of drinks and snacks will be on the club!  Don’t miss it! 

 

Our club’s $123,000 Global Grant project to train nurses in Rwanda in the diagnosis and treatment of strep throat is now a wrap!  Lander Rotarians Maria Kidner and Cassy Venters were in Rwanda for three weeks in January and early February to finish setting up train-the-trainer programs for front-line (village) nurses.  Rwandan health workers will take the program to other hospital districts around the country.  In all, Maria and Cassy spent 8 weeks in Rwanda on the project, the club’s largest ever international project, and they called it a very successful project.  Read more about it on our club’s Website, https://landerrotary.org/.  While you’re there, check out the photos in the Photo Album on the right-hand side.

 

The Lander Rotary Club has now shipped 100 solar cell phone chargers to the people of Ukraine and efforts have begun to send another 100 chargers as soon as possible.  And Ukrainians appreciate them!   The opening message was received recently by Ken Schreuder, the organizer and leader of the project, from a distributor of the chargers in Ukraine. The club’s Board, at the request of the Service Committee, has approved undertaking a District-wide fundraiser or raffle to help raise the nearly $13,000 needed to purchase the second 100 solar panels to be converted to chargers and shipped to Ukraine.  Check out the story and photos on our club’s Website at https://landerrotary.org/. 

 

February is Peanut Butter Month!  Bring a jar or two to any meeting in February to help us supply the Little Food Pantries and Lander Food Bank in March. The "Lander Rotary Feeds People Peanut Butter Project" is an ongoing project to provide peanut butter -- a protein rich, calorie-dense and mighty food. The Lander Food Bank doesn’t receive peanut butter in its commodities, so our club’s Peanut Butter Project is much appreciated.  Janet Seeley and Gail Duba will collect every jar you bring!  Questions: Janet Seeley, j_seeley@ymail.com.
