Physiologicall function under extreme duress

Mallika Sarma PhD candidate at the University of Notre Dame studying human physiology and behavior. Her research looks at adaptation and acclimation to extreme environments and her dissertation considers changes in physiology and behavior when individuals are exposed to highly challenging and novel ecologies during the course of an expedition. Working with the National Outdoor Leadership School here in Lander, her project specifically assesses the intersection of energetic/metabolic physiology, neuroendocrine systems, and social dynamics, asking: How do the relationships we as humans form impact how well we physiologically function under extreme duress?
